Yes. And if anyone tells you otherwise, then they haven't been to the top. They don't know what they're talking about.
When I took on a top-level management position at the workplace I've been a part of for two decades I thought I would be able to do things differently from those who came before me. After all, I rose from the ranks. I only have the good of the community in mind. I'm friends with so many of those who I work with. Oh how naive I turned out to be.
Apparently when I became an administrator, I became an administrator 24/7. No letting my guard down and talking casually with friends who also happen to be people under my care. No giving my position a rest to just be the me I used to be with everyone in the community before I became an executive. Words cannot come out of my mouth without having censored it at least five times.
So, yes, it is lonely at the top...and it's tiring.
